Most digital marketing advice is generic: “produce content”, “do SEO”, “write a blog”. For a business in İzmir the real question is far simpler: what do people here actually type into Google?
Instead of guessing, we are sharing our own data. In our Google Search Console account, across the 90 days between 20 June and 17 September 2026, 121 distinct searches containing “izmir” were recorded, and our site appeared in the results for them 2,116 times. The breakdowns below come from that data.
An important limit: this is not the total search volume of İzmir. It covers only the searches our own site appeared in — a slice of the market visible to us, not the whole of it.
Half of the demand sits under one heading
| Search topic | Share of impressions | Distinct searches |
|---|---|---|
| SEO and search visibility | 51% | 31 |
| Web design and websites | 29% | 36 |
| Software and custom software | 12% | 16 |
| Mobile apps | 3% | 6 |
| Social media | 1% | 9 |
| E-commerce | under 1% | 5 |
| Other | 3% | 18 |
More than half of local searches for digital services concern SEO. There is a reasonable explanation: a website is commissioned once, while visibility is an ongoing concern. A company that already has a site moves on to the next question — “why am I not showing up?”
People are not looking for information. They are looking for a supplier
This is the most striking part of the data. 31% of the 121 searches contained supplier-seeking words: company, firm, agency, specialist, consultant, “best”. Meanwhile the number of informational searches — “what is”, “how to”, “guide” — was zero.
In other words, local searchers arrive to find someone who will do the work, not to learn about the topic. That tells you what your service pages have to do:
- Say what you do in the first screen, in one sentence. Skip definitions and company history.
- Show real references and work examples. Someone searching for “best” is comparing.
- Keep contact details visible: phone, WhatsApp and a street address. In local search, an address is a trust signal.
- Say something about price. Even without exact figures, give a budget frame — silence sends visitors back to the results page.
Price searches are rare, but the most decided audience
Searches containing price, cost or “how much” made up only 8% of impressions (9 distinct searches). Yet in our own measurements, pages about pricing are the ones that earn clicks. This small but clear-intent group goes straight to whoever has prepared an honest pricing page.
Writing about price does not require inventing numbers — a frame is enough: what changes the price, which items inflate a budget, where a typical project sits. Our web design pricing in İzmir and SEO pricing in İzmir articles follow exactly that logic, and you can try our website cost calculator for a rough budget.
District-level searches are smaller than people assume
Local SEO advice usually starts with district pages: Bornova, Buca, Karşıyaka, Çiğli. Those searches do exist in the data, but they are small: across 90 days we saw only 7 distinct searches naming a district, with 36 impressions in total — nearly all of them about web design.
The practical conclusion: building a separate, near-identical page for every district is effort without a return. One strong city page, a genuine description of the service and a properly set-up Google Business Profile bring in more work than thirty thin district pages.
Turkish spelling variants create separate queries
24 of the 121 searches began with a dotted capital İ, and they collected 163 impressions. Users freely type “izmir”, “i̇zmir”, “web tasarim”, “web tasarımı” and so on. The good news is that you do not need separate pages for these variants — the search engine largely treats them as the same intent. Writing in natural Turkish is enough.
Three conclusions we draw from this data
- Local search in İzmir is commercial. Your pages should build trust rather than explain basics: what you do, who you work with, how to reach you.
- Demand for SEO exceeds demand for web design. There are more businesses with an invisible site than businesses with no site at all.
- The long tail is in topics, not districts. “İzmir + service + price/decision” content earns more than “İzmir + district”.
If you have never looked at your own search data, opening a Google Search Console account is enough to start: it is free and takes a few minutes to set up. If you would like us to interpret your data with you, see our SEO in İzmir page or get in touch.
Summary
Searches for digital services in İzmir are commercial: people are not asking “what is it, how is it done” — they are looking for the service and the supplier directly. That means your pages need to build trust rather than explain basics: a clear service definition, real references, open contact details.
